DST Partners with Streambox for Low Bit Rate, Broadcast-Quality Video Over T1, ATM, IP-based Networks and Satellites
Companies to Share Booth at Alaska Broadcast Show
ATLANTA, GA, October 21, 2003 - Premier systems integration provider Digital System Technology, Inc., (DST) today announced a strategic partnership with Streambox Inc. to distribute the company's real-time, multi-network Streambox®ACT-L3™ Video Transport System. The Streambox ACT-L3™ delivers broadcast-quality interlaced video at 1.5 megabits per second over T1, ATM, or IP-based network or satellites. The system features the company's proprietary and patented ACT-L codec - the most advanced compression engine for broadcast applications.
DST and Streambox will make a formal announcement of this partnership within the DST Pavilion at the Alaska Broadcaster's Association convention in Anchorage on October 23 and 24th. Because it provides advanced error correction reliably over a variety of network types, the Streambox Video Transport System is ideally suited for rural environments without an existing network infrastructure.
"Wherever there's a T1 line or IP network, our system will deliver broadcast-quality, interlaced video in real-time starting at 1.5 megabits," said Robert Hildeman, Chairman and CEO, Streambox. "T1 lines are easy to find and a very well defined standard for data delivery, and declining costs of other broadband alternatives are opening many new opportunities."
Mr. Hildeman feels that this partnership with such a respected design, integration and consultation company is validation of Streambox's proven technology and economic value of delivering high-quality, low bitrate, lower cost videos for the broadcast industry: "Streambox provides DST with a unique and unmatched video delivery solution, and DST offers Streambox a channel to the country's top-tier broadcasters. Their expertise in integration and design is unsurpassed. Through their consultation and systems integration services, they provide a top-level approach that ensures that Streambox systems are selected as a design choice to the nation's broadcasters. Other resellers don't offer such a far-reaching extension into the market."
The DST/Streambox fit is a solid one, according to Mark Siegel, Vice President of Business Development, DST. "The Streambox system significantly lowers expense by reducing line costs. This partnership is a prime example of DST's desire to bring forward-thinking technology to market. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Streambox."
The Streambox ACT-L3™ Video Transport System began shipping in January of this year following three and a half years in product development. The system is shipped with Microsoft Windows XP Embedded Operating System and is fully software upgradeable with a solid-state hard disk, ensuring an ease of maintenance, upgrade, reliability and fault tolerance. The codec relies on Intel Pentium 4 processors with Hyperthreading technology to encode real-time interlaced video at 30fps. Advanced Quality of Service (QoS) systems built into the systems include remote management, Forward Error Correction (FEC) and cancellation, bandwidth shaping, and automated self-healing signal reconnect and restart.
