TOKYO BASED JAPAN LEISURE CHANNEL SELECTS STREAMBOX VIDEO OVER IP SOLUTIONS TO REPLACE  MPEG-2 SYSTEMS

JLC to Deploy 290 Streambox SBT3-5100 Video Transport Systems for Real-Time Broadcast of Boat Races over NTT Communications’ IP-based network.

Seattle, December 9, 2005 – Streambox, Inc., the leader of video compression and real-time video solutions for broadcasting, satellite and cable, today announced that Tokyo-based JLC will deploy the Streambox SBT3-5100 encoder/decoder solution to broadcast live boat racing videos from dozens of locations over NTT Communications’ IP-based network in Japan. The live video feeds will be delivered through JLC’s broadcast center in Tokyo and re-broadcast in real-time to over 50 betting venues across Japan. This enables off-site JLC customers to view and place bets on individual boat races as they are taking place, all in real time.

“We are pleased to select Streambox for our new video over IP delivery infrastructure” said Yoshimichi Maeoka, managing director, technical development, Japan Leisure Channel. “Streambox’s high quality ACT-L3™ video compression and advanced networking capabilities meets our criteria to transport high quality live video and VOD over an IP-based network.”

The extensive selection process included side by side tests from a strong field of Streambox competitors. The purchase represents the first major deployment of video over IP as the primary video feed across NTT Communications’ IP-based network.

“We are delighted that JLC has chosen the SBT3-5100 product to power real-time transmission of video feeds from boat racing locations to remote JLC betting venues” said Bob Hildeman, chairman and CEO of Streambox. “We are committed to working closely with JLC and NTT Communications to deliver high performance, high quality solutions that advance their long-term broadcast strategies.”

The Streambox SBT3-5100 is a true 24/7 high performance multi-network video transport system with advanced features for unicast, multicast, point to point and multi-point delivery over IP and other pack-based networks. System capabilities include real-time delivery of stunning full motion, full frame interlaced broadcast quality video and audio. The Streambox video compression technology matches MPEG-2 video quality at a 75% lower data rate and it is up to 50% more efficient than MPEG-4. The SBT3-5100 ACT-L3™ encoders and decoders come in a variety of forms including portable, desktop and rack mount.
