Streambox and Inmarsat Set
New Standard for Real-Time Delivery of Broadcast Video Over Global
Satellite Network
Streambox Video Transport Solutions Enable Users of Inmarsat’s BGAN
to Transmit High-Quality Video from Virtually Any Location at Data Rates
from 64 kbps to 256 kbps
SEATTLE — May 9, 2006 — Streambox, Inc., a
leading supplier of real-time video transport solutions for broadcasting, satellite, and cable, today announced that it has
partnered with Inmarsat, the leading provider of global mobile satellite
communications, to facilitate the transmission and delivery of low
latency, real-time broadcast video to users of Inmarsat’s Broadband
Global Area Network (BGAN) service at data rates from 64 kbps to 256
kbps. The Streambox ACT-L3™ video transport solutions give BGAN users a
compact and reliable solution for plug-and-transmit video transport in
regions with poor or nonexistent telecom networks.
“The combination of the Streambox ACT‑L3™ video transport solution with
BGAN already is taking live newsgathering to a new level for major
broadcast networks providing coverage from remote or challenging
environments,” said Harry Tayler, Manager of Enterprise Solutions at
Inmarsat. “The partnership of BGAN & Streambox is a compelling
combination that will transform satellite newsgathering. BGAN’s
smaller, higher bandwidth terminals together with the Streambox ACT‑L3™
solution can be rapidly deployed all over the world and easily used by
non-technical staff.”
The
Streambox ACT-L3™ video transport solution is optimized for archiving
DVD-quality video, transmitting video over long distances using
broadband communications, and serving it up over cost-effective
networks. Inmarsat labs performed rigorous testing of Streambox’s portable video transport system’s performance over satellite and IP networks, as well as the equipment’s ability to deliver reliable video and data over low data rate networks. The Streambox video transport solutions enable users to transmit video and data via BGAN’s dedicated streaming channel at up to 256 kbps. Designed for users in the military, the maritime sector, and major news organizations worldwide, the highly mobile and easy-to-use Inmarsat/Streambox video transmission service functions as an end-to-end newsgathering or video conferencing solution that can be set up and operational in minutes.
“Our partnership with Inmarsat demonstrates our unwavering commitment to providing innovative video solutions to customers who require instant mobile broadband video transmission,” said Bob Hildeman, chairman and CEO of Streambox. “Without a doubt, Streambox and Inmarsat provide the highest quality network solutions available today.”
High compression, forward error correction, and advanced network capabilities are the hallmarks of Streambox systems’ ability to deliver broadcast video over a variety of networks, and the company continues to develop cutting-edge technology for use in live mobile newsgathering, surveillance, and point-to-point and point-to-multipoint video distribution.
