The ability to stream high quality, low latency live and file-based video over IP enables enterprises, government, and other entities to better communicate with employees, improve work flows, and enhance procedures and effectiveness. Enterprises such as financial institutions may use low data rate, low latency live streaming to convey immediate changes in transaction procedures, fee structures, and other product offerings to their cadre
of analysts and brokers. Other enterprises may choose to stream live or on-demand webcasts via the Internet
to geographically dispersed employees.
Educational institutions such as universities are able to simulcast lecture series to 'spill-over' auditoriums and affiliated campuses as a means of extending their educational reach, cutting the cost of retained faculty, while offering a wider array of classes to both matriculated and non-matriculated students in, for example, on-line or distance learning programs.
Government agencies and not-for-profit organizations use streaming video for a variety of purposes: from
hurricane tracking and emergency response, to surveillance, border protection, and law enforcement. It enables government to be more effective in addressing unfolding events and sharing video with other government agencies, and ultimately in delivering improved services to citizens.
